The tranquil town of Pushkar located 13 km. from Ajmer in Rajasthan is transformed into a spectacular fair ground for 12 days in the month of November. Trading of cattle, camel races and dazzling displays of bangles, brassware, cloths, camel saddles and halters are the major attractions of this colourful event. Devotees in thousands come to take a ritual dip in the Pushkar Lake on the day of Kartik Purnima and to worship Brahma. Also on sale during the Pushkar festival are mouth-watering traditional delicacies. Colourfully attired village folk enhance the fun of the occasion. A host of cultural events against the backdrop of this pretty setting are also organized including attractive puppet shows.
A winding road among the hills leads to Pushkar. The way is full of natural scenes. There are rows of beautiful plants on either side of the road and the travellers get refreshed while travelling to this place. One can see the buses, tongas, taxis and pedestrians on the road coming to and going from Pushkar. The road is always busy. The pedestrians enjoy their walk. They can rest under the shady trees too. When a tourist or a pilgrim reaches Pushkar, he finds himself at one with nature.
The town of Pushkar is far from the noisy environment of the city.
